Squarespace's own templates are a starting point, and they are included with your plan, so the subscription isn't just paying for a template. It covers the whole platform: hosting, security, updates, design tools, selling tools, SEO features, and support.
Third-party templates are a separate purchase, and their price reflects the work behind them. Designers build the layouts, write custom code where needed, and create documentation and setup guidance. Compared with hiring a web designer to build from scratch, a premium template is often the more affordable route, but it's still a cost on top of your Squarespace plan.
August Cura templates range from $150 CAD for a one page template to $400 CAD for the larger multi-page templates. Each includes 20% off your first annual Squarespace plan. On Core billed annually in Canada ($384 CAD before applicable taxes), that discount works out to about $77 CAD in the first year. Once the site is yours, there's no maintenance plan to pay for.
Buying a premium template is the best of both worlds. You get a designer's touch, and you save money by doing the setup yourself.
